Welcome!

Beth Brody earned her MFA in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA). She is currently working on YA and MG historical novels in verse, children’s poetry, and a chapbook poetry collection for adults. Beth won the 2018 Writer’s Digest Poetry Award, and has twice been a Tassy Shoreline Arts Awards Picture Book Finalist. She is represented by Linda Epstein of the Emerald City Literary Agency.

Beth is a member of Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). She continues her education through workshops and lectures both online and through venues such as VCFA, the Highlights Foundation, and with Georgia Heard at The Poet’s Studio. Beth belongs to two (at least!) long time critique groups.

Beth’s family includes two delightful daughters, a just as delightful son-in-law, and a not so delightful rescue terrier. Beth and her husband divide their time between Connecticut and Vermont. (Yes. That’s right. We go north in the winter.)

Breakfast in a basement dive in Hong Kong. Delicious!

10 Short Fun Facts About Me:

  • I am Beth. Not Elizabeth. Not Bethany. Not any other form of Beth. Just Beth. Sometimes people don’t believe me when I say I’m just Beth. They have argued with me. I’m serious. I have even written a silly poem about this.
  • I was born and grew up in New York City. Right in Manhattan. Upper West Side. I was never on a school bus, took public transportation all by myself when I was 8, never learned to ride a bike, and didn’t learn to drive until I was 25. We went to the Met, Lincoln Center, and the Museum of Natural History on field trips.
  • I love Halloween. My birthday is on Halloween! My childhood nicknames were Boo Boo, Betsy boo and Boochick. Boo to you!
  • I have had four dogs. Our current little guy came from a rescue that we found out later was a front for a meth lab. He’s a mess but I love him. Somebody has to.
  • I was a professional chef for almost 20 years. I still love to cook and bake. I have excellent recipes for brownies, scones, waffles, and shortbread cookies.
  • I like chocolate, coffee milkshakes, sushi, most veggies, strawberries in season, anchovies, all cheese and most carbohydrates. I do not like blackberries, fresh plums, salsa, most pizza, raw broccoli or potato chips (unless they’re BBQ).
  • I have traveled to both Russia and China but my favorite place is Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, Maine. Brrrr.
  • My spelling is often unaceptible, unnacceptable, bad. I use my dictionary and thesaurus a lot.
  • I handled snakes, turtles, frogs, a possum and a tarantula when I taught nature classes for children.
  • I went back to school for my MFA when I was 56, got my agent at 62. Never give up!!
